National Records and OSTIV Presentation
The Soaring Society of America hosted their convention in Reno, Nevada from March 1-3. Perlan Project was featured on the convention floor and at the Friday night OSTIV dinner. The team gathered to celebrate the awarding of two national records from Greg Principato, the president of NAA on Friday. We all know that the entire team contributed to make that high flight possible. For Absolute Altitude 52,221 feet GPS altitude. For Altitude Gain 41,768 feet.
For the sold out Friday night dinner 200 soaring folks came to hear the story of Perlan Project. Because it was OSTIV Jim included much more technical detail in his presentation. We even had a 30 minute loop of glorious tail camera footage specially made for the SSA convention as background dinner entertainment. The 4k high resolution footage was accompanied by music from Classical Tahoe. It looked fabulous on the huge screen at the Atlantis Hotel. Thanks to Tim Davis for the video editing, Ken Dworkin for the sound editing, and Cindy Rhys for the musical selections.
Mother Nature seemed to celebrate with us, dumping 6 feet of powdery snow in the Sierra during the 3 days of the convention. But Reno only got a total of 6 inches over the 3 days. It still snarled traffic and closed roads in the mountains. Roads were clear both before and after the convention for glider trailer transportation.
